Once you have completed communications with the client/user about their question, please click on the "Close Question" button below. This will change the status of this question to "closed" within the Project. The client/user is also able to close the question at any time.

Please make sure that you have fully completed the conversation before closing the question; the client/user will not be able to reopen the question after it is marked closed. Once you have answered and closed the question, you have fulfilled the scope of services under this Project for that question. If you wish to consult with or provide representation to the client/user beyond the brief legal advice provided through the Project, you must do so outside of this Portal. As described in more detail as part of the "Note Regarding Limitations on Malpractice Insurance Coverage" below, additional consultation and representation such as this is outside the scope of this Project's malpractice coverage. If you wish to communicate about that consultation through this Portal you can initiate an offer of a free 30 minute consultation by clicking on the "Offer Outside Consultation" button below. Please note that communications through the Portal require that you be offering thirty (30) minutes of free consultation. Services beyond that are completely within your discretion. Clicking on the button will send you to a module where you will enter your contact information and then send an automated message to the client/user's email. You will be able to preview that message in the module that pops up when you click on the "Offer Outside Consultation" button.

You must first close the question in order to offer a consultation.

If the client/user is interested, they have the option to email you so that you can communicate outside of the Portal. Please use the "Offer Outside Consultation" feature when extending this offer to client/users, as it allows the Victims' Rights Project to track how many conversations within the Project lead to offers of further consultation.

Note Regarding Limitations on Malpractice Coverage: Representation of a client beyond the limited scope of the brief written advice is outside the coverage of NCVLI's Professional Liability Insurance for the Victims' Rights Advice Project. If attorneys wish to take on a matter pro bono beyond the initial, brief rights enforcement advice and continue rights enforcement representation, and are needing PLF coverage, please email NCVLI at navra@lclark.edu to see if the matter qualifies as a NAVRA pro bono representation case. Coverage under NAVRA is limited to victims' rights enforcement work.
